Bio
Gil Del Bosque is a freelance saxophonist, composer, and educator based in Austin, Texas, originally from Brownsville, Texas. An active and versatile performer, he maintains a regular schedule in Austin and throughout Texas, appearing across a wide range of settings from straight-ahead jazz to Motown, Latin, and contemporary styles. He has shared the stage with artists including Boyz II Men, Huey Lewis and the News, Aaron Neville, Chris Potter, Mike Clark, Debbie Boone, and Olga Tañón.
Del Bosque leads the Gil Del Bosque Quartet, a modern jazz ensemble with a long-running residency at Elephant Room and a recipient of support from the Austin Live Music Fund (2024). He is also the saxophonist and horn arranger for The Matchmaker Band, a Motown and soul ensemble. His performance credits include appearances at Monks Jazz Club, Parker Jazz Club, and the Austin Jazz Society, as well as international performances at the Festival Internacional de Jazz Armando Núñez Portillo.
As a multi-instrumentalist, Del Bosque performs on saxophones, woodwinds, and electric wind synthesizer, and is known for his stylistic range spanning jazz, classical, blues, Motown, Tejano, salsa, merengue, and popular music. He has recorded extensively with Austin-based artists, including trumpeter Adrian Ruiz and trumpeter Pete Rodriguez.
An active educator, Del Bosque maintains a private studio of more than 40 weekly saxophone and clarinet students and works with the Austin Jazz Workshop, where he presents school programs and leads youth jam sessions. He has also served as a guest artist and clinician at institutions including El Paso Community College, the University of North Alabama, and the Chihuahua 4 Festival de Jazz.
Del Bosque released his debut album, Here with You (2017), recorded in Austin with guitarist Armando Núñez Portillo, bassist Eric Ross, and drummer David Sierra, and featuring trumpeter Adrian Ruiz and trumpeter Pete Rodriguez. His latest release, The Sound of Resistance, is an acoustic recording made possible with support from the Austin Live Music Fund and is available on all major streaming platforms. In 2026, he will also release Pulse, an electric-based project.
He holds a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of North Texas, and has studied with noted educators including Willie Owens, Don Lefevre, Jim Riggs, Andrew Dahlke, Tom Luer, Bob Shepard, Woody Witt, and Harvey Pittel.
